RODDY BRAY : Great Guides

audio Human Evolution

This lecture is a whistle stop tour through an amazing story of hominid evolution in Africa, including bipedalism in the savannah, tool use and fire, language, hunting and gathering and a very close brush with extinction. In the process we learn of the Leakey’s and the famous finds of east Africa, and the more recent finds at the ‘cradle of humankind’ in South Africa. Our walk with our evolving hominid ancestors sees dead-ends, adaptations and vast migrations across the world; competition between different hominid species and the final emergence of modern man in southern Africa two hundred thousand years ago, and his slow progress out of Africa to populate every habitat on earth. Recorded live on the Silver Wind.
